Due to the corona virus, some educational institutions are trying to bring learn from home concepts after many companies started the idea of work from home. Question is can learn from home be the same as work from home?

Before we look at learning from home let me be clear about the concept of work from home. This idea was brought for getting a high level of productivity from those employees who felt more productive at their residences as compared in their offices. Because they are more relaxed in their tranquil atmosphere at the house. Work from home could come in two ways first if you are working for someone else or any organization. Second, it could be your business, that is if you are self-employed. Of course, a single idea need not be accepted by everyone so work from home has come with its pros and cons. Remember these points need not be the same for everyone.

Pros :

Freedom: So now it’s your house and working from your house is like you are the king and you have a kingdom under your control you can do whatever you wish to do. You can lay down on your sofa and work in your pajamas. Work from home gives you these kinds of freedom which you won’t find in the offices.

All you need is self: When you are working for someone else or in a company you may like to work under certain pressure which will help you to fulfill the task or with someone’s guidelines because that contains certain criteria that require disciplined actions to be taken for accomplishing the goals. Here you rely on self-discipline and self-motivation. You don’t need any kind of pressure to accomplish the task. You give orders to yourself and you are the boss of your work.

High Productivity: In-office one may feel that there is so noise, You may get frustrated with an office-mate and it may happen somehow this is declining your productivity. When you are at your house you are free from the interruptions, loud co-workers, etc.

Easy meetings: Some meetings always start after an hour from the given time. Everyone hates people who are late for a meeting. And especially when the meeting can’t get started because someone is not there. You won’t face such problems while working from home because you don’t have to go to the meeting room. Video conferencing through skyping or any other app will give you an ease for late and boring meetings.

Cons :

Atmosphere: You live in a different atmosphere than you do work in an office. In the office, you live in cubicles. So there is bound with the office that kind of relationship you will not find at your homes. This also includes the workflow that happens in the office is very different from the home.

Time matters: If you are working in your company you have a fixed schedule for every work you do. This also includes a time limit for each and every particular task. When you will be at your house, there is no one to give you orders or shout at you so there is a possibility that you can go out of control ( as you are the boss). You may waste your time in unnecessary things and sometimes you may also forget about time.

Tools: when you are in the office you get access to everything that you want in your project. while in the house may be your internet connection is slow or your laptop may not have features as compared to your office computer. One more point can come that is you cannot access all the data on the cloud while you are working from home due to data security reasons. So you have to be at your office for such important data to be used.

Interaction between your colleagues: When you have work with your colleague in office then there are more chances that he/she will more likely to help you in the office than if you are asking help from your home.

Now those who are trying to implement learn from home for them there will be some Challenges waiting on the path. Things which have been mentioned above from the cons of work from home, if we think a bit some drawbacks can occur while a student is learning from home.

The very first problem will be interest if students are not interested in studying or say if they don’t want to learn from home this is the very first problem that may occur with a student. Of course, not every student will wish to learn from home. Hardly they pay attention while in classrooms and now they will be studying from their houses, this won’t be easy for such students.

There may be some exceptional problems also which I haven’t discussed.

Let’s execute these problems step by step.

If one employee is working work from home they will be getting a salary for it. They are paid for their work. In the case of students, it is not that they will get nothing they are studying for themselves so students will be getting knowledge. ( I know such things are not to be told but sad truth is that some students need such kind of words so that one day they will take an initiative for themselves) So if the first step is solved that is once interest is built. Now another step is to choose the subject and mode of learning.

Here you are getting a chance of choosing the subject. At work from home, you will have to work only on that subject which you are interested in.

After you choose the subject now the mode of learning has to be ambiguous because unless and until you are understanding what a teacher is trying to tell you are not going to get the subject in your head.

While learning from home you have to visit online learning platforms you don’t have any other better options for it. Okay, you may have a book, but to what extent you will read a book and book will only tell you what’s written into it. If you wish to go outside it you will have to go online and search Google.

As we have discussed from the above points given in cons like atmosphere, time, tools, interactions with colleagues these all will be the same when learning from home is implemented. Students will miss the atmosphere of school, teachers, discipline. They might study at any time they wished. In schools/colleges, students have the opportunity to interact with their friends, teachers ( some might say that we have access from the house too, sorry but I am not talking about Skype and video call).

There are some similarities and also differences between work from home and learn from home. Bottom line is that a worker, an employee should give benefits to its company while working from home. And so a student should learn a subject in such a manner that he/she must gain the proper knowledge from the courses that he/she has enrolled for it.

And of course, everyone has their different ways of working and learning so things may vary.

If I have to summarize the whole thing then only one who is willing to work from home he/she can work from anywhere and anyplace. Similarly, if a student wants to learn he/she will learn from anywhere no matter what struggle they will have to do for acquiring the knowledge. The rest of them will require motivations, resources and time for studying.

I will be discussing everything about online learning in my upcoming blogs.

suggestions are most welcomed .Thanks for reading.
